Simon Harris T.D., Minister of State with special responsibility for Public Procurement has announced new framework agreements for the supply of electricity to the entire public sector. These frameworks will bring about substantial savings.

Welcoming the framework agreements Minister Harris commented: “The scale of cost reductions that can be achieved in this area – without any variation in the service levels for public service customers – is hugely encouraging.  I am confident that centralising the procurement of essential utilities, such as electricity is helping to reduce administrative burdens for individual Public Service Bodies.

“Centralising procurement also assists the public service in managing its information on spending patterns and usage into the future”, explained Minister Harris.

The two contracts which have already been awarded from these frameworks have delivered savings of €4.8m. A further 13 mini-competitions are planned during the lifetime of these framework agreements. They are expected to add significantly to the overall savings on electricity across the entire public service.

“I am happy that very significant additional savings will be achieved on an ongoing basis” concluded Minister Harris.
